LINDA INGRAM

I am drawn to beauty...the kind that reaches beyond the eyes and into the soul, such as a wilted flower, a bare tree, or a soaring bird. They communicate the poignant beauty of vulnerability, fragility and hope.

I started out as a painter and soon got interested in photography however I  approach photography like painting.  I use the camera as just one of my tools to build my final image. My interest is not in “taking” a photograph but rather “creating” an interpretive image that captures a mood or emotion with something as simple as a leaf or a flower.

I photograph the different elements and combine them digitally, creating the composition, changing the background and/or manipulating the subject itself.  After it is printed I mount the image onto a wood panel, sometimes manipulating the surface with mixed media and then coat it with an epoxy resin.  It is an involved process that requires the leveling of the piece and pouring the resin over it.  When it is dry,  I finish the resin in a manner that makes it smooth and sensual, almost waxlike. The hand of the artist becomes an integral part of the artwork making it more unique, painterly and sculptural.
